Susan Szantosi is a contemporary photographer and graphic designer, currently living in Sarasota, Florida. She grew up in Hungary, lived in Austria, Germany and Michigan for several years before relocating to Sarasota. One main direction her art is defined by, are self-portraits, which are aimed to bring awareness to subjects moving her. Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Children's Education, her motivation is to turn the world into a better place for the next generation to live in.About Filtered Reality:"As I am walking on the street, that girl maybe thinks of me, that I am old, or even a good looking woman. Maybe she thinks, that she will be like me, or the opposite and she thinks, that she for sure won't wear clothes like this in her forties. That old man, who I am talking to, maybe thinks that I remind him of his wife, who passed away years ago, or he thinks, that I am funny or maybe not funny at all. That other mother of two could think that we are in the same situation with 2 children, but are we? Everybody judges me through her or his own glasses, through his or her own life experience, compared to themselves. Maybe the old man had a good day, the girl a bad day, the mother didn't get her sleep that day, which affects their view of me. Everybody has his or her own filter for the day and that makes me shine differently every day, every hour, every minute to each different person. In today's social media world we never know who is the real person behind the filter. How was the Photo taken you may ask? On a cold Michigan afternoon my Husband went out with the children. I was feeling motivated to create, so I made my makeup, my hair and went down to the basement to the little studio in our house. I turned on music, the lights and the camera. Within minutes I was absorbed. I had a couple of things around me, ropes, fabrics. In this particular photo I was holding a silver mesh fabric between me and the lens around halfway. It represents the filter or rather the filter on social media, the makeup on our face, or the behavior what we use to hide behind. There are color variations of this photo I made with several colored textiles to showcase the effects of individual filters. You always see something else, my face looks different with each color."The artwork comes with a white floating frame.
